Do It for the Love of the Game
Life happens much too quickly for us to hold onto materialistic things.
I saw this guy having a lot of fun even though he was simply riding an electric scooter |
The physical forms of wealth and success won't amount to how much fulfillment you could get from making real memories by living in the present. But what does it really mean to live in the present? Does it mean living to your fullest? Does it mean living without thinking about the past and future? To me, living in the present means doing things with love and intention, because simplicity and peace will naturally follow.
I believe most people I'm close to know that I love food. More often than not, I will eat like it's my last meal. This isn't because I'm always hungry, I just simply love food. If I eat, I'll eat 100%. I do this in hopes of being able to one day say, "if I live, I'll live 100%", because why live halfway and only experience half of what you could receive? Now, this doesn't mean that I want to burn myself out again and again, but that I'll give what I have with intention.
I've consistently found that whenever I get the sudden epiphany "This is happening right now, and I won't experience this exact same thing ever again", I've remembered things much more vividly. To be specific, I don't think this with the worry that I will be leaving the moment soon, but instead "I'm living the moment" period. Savor that feeling.
When you separate the destination from the journey, I think you'll remember the journey much more. Because when you eventually reach your death bed, you won't be talking about your money or your achievements--you'll be hoping to experience those memories you once lived again, so make them count.
I like this idea you presented about living in the moment, I often think the same thing during orchestra concerts to remind myself to stay present and enjoy the music because I will likely never play the same pieces again. Its a good thing to get comfortable with transcience!
ReplyDeleteI remember having a similar conversation with you while back and I liked how you expanded on it. Sometimes it isn't about chasing money and success but just the process itself.
ReplyDeleteyeahh i thought about that exact convo when writing this
DeleteWhen i die lowk all im gonna see are reels. And that's bad! Ruh roh. Anyways was this mystification of his quote perhaps a reference to the nacirema piece we had? Idk. For the last point though i think it''s not really about the separation of destination/journey but more like equal appreciation of both. Often I think about swim and how "all I'm gonna remember about swim are the struggles and the team effort" but even with all that I still remember my times and my awards (which are very few). I guess maybe I have some sort of corrupted mindset but appreciation of what you have achieved is still important compared to the whole journey that leads up to it.
